Barberton biz in Auto Scrap

Auto Recycling is a diverse industry in the US. Commodities such as aluminum and steel are vital to our “buy my junk car” business where we pay cash for my car to vehicle sellers in the Summit County area. As a junk vehicle buyer and scrap car buyer, we are dramatically impacted by changes in auto scrap related materials. Similarly, a local Barberton-based company is in the headlines with an agreement in the auto manufacturing industry that is great news for Compass Systems and Sales LLC and their employees. My Google search of the company indicates that Compass has approximately 30-50 employees. According to the company website www.compasssystemsandsales.com describes their focus as: “An engineering based company, w/ more than 60 years of hands-on experience designing, manufacturing, and installing customized systems; we take the responsibility of creating a material handling system for your company very seriously.”

In a December 17, 2014 article on crainscleveland.com by Scott Suttell entitled ‘Barberton Company plays vital role in Ford’s strategy for the 2015 F-150’, Suttell reports the following:
“A Barberton company is playing a key role in a major recycling effort by Ford Motor Co. The Wall Street Journal takes a look at Ford’s strategy for the 2015 F-150, a lighter-weight pickup truck that goes on sale this month. By the time a new truck exits the factory for the showroom, it will have left behind $300 of scrap aluminum on the plant floor, the Journal says. That scrap is collected, cleaned, & sent back to the aluminum plant on the same trucks that delivered it fresh. That creates what Ford CEO Mark Fields calls a “closed loop” that helps offset the expense of building its vehicle with a material pricier than steel. Ford’s aluminum recycling system, installed as part of a $359 million overhaul of the Dearborn factory, allows recoup up to $300 a truck, helping offset about 20% of higher production costs.  The separation & shredding machinery comes from Barberton’s Compass Systems & Sales; the machinery separates alloys, ensures it is free of dirt & oils that might contaminate the recycling process. It then shreds the scrap and sucks it into large tubes that empty into the returning trucks. Aluminum companies pay 50% more per/pound for separated alloys.
